A puppy from Ukraine received a special gift from people all over the country after hearing about his sad story. The dog named True never imagined that he would gain so much love from people he never knew. A horrific past of animal cruelty made him lose her two front paws, and people can only feel sorry for her.
She now lives with his new owner Erin Blaak in Ontario, Canada, far away from the painful past he experienced. Erin got wind of the dog with the help from the team of Cause 4 Paws. They are a group that helps rescue dogs, and they arranged True to get a new home in Canada.
Erin helped set up the GoFundMe campaign for True. They initially targeted to achieve $5,000 to buy a pair of prosthetic limbs to help True walk again. Erin thought that it would help True have a real life and get back what his abusers denied from him.
The campaign reached the amount amazingly fast and even exceeded their expectations. They ended up achieving more than $20,000. Their GoFundMe page went crazy as soon as their story came out and people felt the pain of the dog True. Erin felt astonished by the reaction they received from the story that aired and went online.
The canine successfully got his new prosthetic limbs, but it will take more time until he uses them with ease. They likened the process to a person who did not use their legs for a while and lost their muscle memory of walking using the legs. It will take months to acclimate True to use his legs again, but they hope he can gain his strength back although slowly.
True currently works with a K9 rehabilitation practitioner Janine Ross, and they plan to get him comfortable in using the limbs through a small training pool until he regains his strength.
